Wise Business from Egypt: what Wise actually offers, and what changes with a US LLC

What Wise publishes for a founder in Egypt: the countries where you can hold money, who gets USD account details, how Wise verifies a US business and its trading address, the limits on card acceptance, and what a US LLC changes and what it leaves unchanged.

The short answer

As of 24 September 2026, Egypt is not on Wise's list of countries where you can hold money. An Egypt resident can register and send with a personal account, but cannot keep a balance or get USD account details. A US LLC changes where your business is registered; it does not change where you live and work, and Wise's business verification looks at both.

That distinction, registration versus residence, decides most of what follows. Wise publishes its rules page by page rather than as one eligibility statement, so this article puts the relevant pages side by side: what a personal account from Egypt can do, what a US LLC adds, what Wise asks for when it verifies a US business, and where the card-acceptance feature stops. Every requirement below links to the Wise page it comes from, and Wise decides each application at review time.

What Wise is, and what it is not

Wise (وايز) is a multi-currency account with transfers, a debit card in some markets, and local account details in a set of currencies for customers who qualify. It is not a bank. Wise's US entity says so directly on its customer-funds page: "We are not a bank". The same page explains that balances are held in cash at commercial banks and in government bonds, kept separate from the money Wise uses to run its own business, and that money in a US Wise account is not FDIC-insured unless you opt into Wise's interest feature, which adds pass-through insurance through a program bank under the conditions set out there.

On the regulatory side, Wise's regulation page lists a different licence for each region. In the UK, Wise Payments Limited is authorised as an electronic money institution by the Financial Conduct Authority. In the US, Wise US Inc. is registered with FinCEN and licensed as a money transmitter in the states that license it, with a partner bank covering the remaining states and territories.

Why this matters for you: an electronic money institution or money transmitter does not lend, does not offer credit, and decides who can hold money on a country-by-country basis. That last point is the one that catches founders in Egypt.

Wise is also not a payment gateway. There is a limited "get paid by card" feature, covered below, but it is a payment-request link rather than a checkout on your website, and it is closed to new business customers at the time of writing.

What a personal Wise account from Egypt can and cannot do

Wise separates two things that people tend to merge: sending money and holding money.

Sending. Wise's service-availability page says you can register and send money with Wise "from most countries around the world", then lists the countries it does not serve at all (Afghanistan, Belarus, Iran, Iraq, Libya, Russia, Sudan, Syria, Yemen and others). Egypt is not on that exclusion list as of 24 September 2026. So an Egypt resident is not blocked from registering, and whether a particular transfer can be funded from Egypt depends on the payment methods Wise offers for your currency and route.

Holding. The hold-money page is a residence list: you can hold money "if you live in one of the following countries". As of 24 September 2026 the list includes Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar and the United States (Nevada excluded), and Bahrain for personal accounts only. Egypt is not on it. Neither is the UAE.

USD account details. The USD details page makes details available when your address is "in a country where you can open a currency", for personal and business accounts alike. It also publishes a list of addresses that cannot get USD details at all; the UAE, Türkiye, Pakistan, Nigeria, China and Bangladesh are on it, along with Nevada.

Put together: a personal Wise account registered from Egypt is a sending tool. It will not hold a balance and it will not give you USD, EUR or GBP account details to hand to a client. If a client insists on paying into local US details, Wise is not the answer for an individual living in Egypt, whatever the account is called.

One more thing to say plainly. Using a relative's address in a listed country to get around this is a misrepresentation to Wise, and Wise verifies addresses. Do not build an income stream on it.

What a US LLC changes, and what it does not

A US LLC is a business registered in the United States, and the United States is on Wise's hold-money list. That changes the first question Wise asks about a business: where is it registered. It does not change the second question: where does it actually operate, and who owns it.

Wise's US business verification page lists what it collects, and the list is worth reading line by line before you form anything.

The business itself

Business name, company type, and the EIN, the federal tax number the IRS issues to a company. If the LLC does not have one yet, getting an EIN without an SSN explains the route.

Two addresses, and only one of them can be your registered agent

Wise asks for a registered address and a trading address, and treats them differently.

The registered address is where the company was incorporated. Wise's page says it can be the address of the registration agency you used or of your attorney, so a registered-agent address is acceptable here.

The trading address is different. Wise defines it as your primary place of business, "the place where you work every day": an office, co-working space, shop, studio or home. Wise lists what it will not accept as a trading address: PO boxes (other than military ones), registration agencies, mail-forwarding services and virtual addresses. The address verification page adds that the registered and trading addresses may be in different countries, that the trading address must be "in a country where we support Wise Business", and that Wise may ask for a recent document (a utility bill or bank statement under three months old, for example) showing the business or owner's name, the full trading address, an issue date and the sender.

Here is the honest reading for an owner who works from Cairo. Your trading address is in Egypt, because that is where you work every day. Egypt is not on the hold-money list. Wise does not publish a single sentence that joins those two pages for a US LLC with an Egyptian trading address, and we will not invent one. What Wise's pages do rule out is the shortcut: a registered agent, a virtual US address or a mail-forwarding address cannot be your trading address, and naming a US address where nobody works is a false statement to a regulated institution. Registered agent vs virtual address vs operating address explains why providers keep asking about three different address roles.

Owners, controller and directors

Wise asks for every beneficial owner with 25% or more: full name, date of birth, residential address, email and job title. Owners who are US-based or hold a US passport give an SSN; owners outside the US give photo ID. You name one controller per account. Directors give name, date of birth and country of residence. Nothing on the page requires the owner to live in the US; the page assumes non-US owners exist and tells them what to provide. Wise also asks what you sell, for a website or storefront link, why you are using Wise, and your expected monthly volumes.

What this adds up to

A US LLC gets you past the registration question and gives Wise an entity, an EIN and documents to verify. It does not turn an Egyptian home office into a US trading address, and it does not make Wise's decision for it. Formation, the EIN and Wise's review are three separate stages decided by three different parties. Wise's business-account page also notes that in some regions there is a fee to open a business account or to get account details; check the fee for your region before you plan around it.

Getting paid by card on Wise Business, and where it stops

Wise Business has a feature for requesting a payment by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay, but two limits matter for a founder in Egypt. According to Wise's card-payments page, it is available only to businesses in the EEA, the UK, Australia, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Singapore, Canada or the US, and it is "currently unavailable to new Wise Business customers" as of 24 September 2026. For US businesses the page lists a fee of 2.9% + 0.30 USD for domestic card payments and 4.2% + 0.30 USD for international ones, with payouts taking up to 14 days.

Even where it is open, this is a payment-request link you send to one customer. It is not a checkout on your store, and it does not run subscriptions. If your customers need to pay by card on your own website, the answer sits with a payment provider such as Stripe (سترايب), and accepting payments from Egypt sets out what that route needs and which decisions belong to Stripe rather than to anyone else.

When this is the wrong answer

If you live in Egypt and want a personal multi-currency balance. Wise does not hold money for Egypt residents, and trying different sign-up paths does not change that. Compare providers whose own eligibility pages list Egypt; nsave's supported-countries page does, as of 24 September 2026, and nsave vs a US business account and Payoneer vs a US business bank account walk through what each of those actually gives you.

If you want Wise as a substitute for Stripe. It is not a gateway. No checkout, no subscriptions, and the card feature is closed to new business customers.

If the only trading address you could give is one where you do not work. Wise's exclusion list names registration agencies, mail forwarding and virtual addresses. If your plan depends on one of those, or on a friend's address, the plan fails at verification or later.

If your activity is on Wise's excluded list. Wise's business-eligibility page excludes businesses involved in cryptocurrency, tobacco, adult content and other prohibited activities, and entities with bearer shares.

If you would form a US LLC only to get a Wise account. The company brings a state renewal and US filings, including the Form 5472 information return for a foreign-owned single-member LLC with reportable transactions, and it does not cancel your Egyptian tax obligations if you are tax-resident there. A Wise account that Wise has not promised is a thin reason to take that on. Form a company because your customers, your contracts or your payment provider need one.

If all your customers are in Egypt and pay in EGP. You need none of this.

How to choose

  1. Do you only need to send money abroad from Egypt? A personal Wise account may do that; Egypt is not on Wise's excluded list for registering and sending. Check the funding methods Wise offers for your route.
  2. Do you need USD or EUR account details as an individual living in Egypt? Not Wise. Compare the providers whose eligibility pages list Egypt.
  3. Do you have, or genuinely need, a US LLC with a real trading address you can document? Wise Business is one candidate. Put it next to Mercury and the other providers before applying: Mercury for a US LLC owned from Egypt and Mercury alternatives for a non-resident-owned US LLC.
  4. Do your customers pay by card on your site? That is a Stripe question, not a Wise question. Start with applying for Stripe from Egypt. Whether any payment provider accepts a Wise USD account for payouts is that provider's decision; check its own page.
  5. Would you have to stretch the truth on an address? Stop there.

Frequently asked questions

Is Wise available in Egypt?

Partly. As of 24 September 2026, Egypt is not on Wise's list of countries it does not serve, so an Egypt resident can register and send. Egypt is not on the list of countries where you can hold money, so a personal account cannot keep a balance or get USD, EUR or GBP account details. Both lists are on Wise's help centre and change over time.

Can I get USD account details on Wise from Egypt?

Not on a personal account with an Egyptian address. Wise gives USD details when your address is in a country where you can open a currency, and Egypt is not one of them. For a business, the address Wise reviews is the trading address, which must be a physical place where the business actually works, and Wise decides whether to issue details after verification.

Does a US LLC let me open Wise Business from Egypt?

It lets you apply as a US-registered business, which is a different starting point from an Egyptian individual. Wise then verifies the EIN, the registered address, a physical trading address, every owner at 25% or more and a controller. The LLC does not change where you work, and Wise does not publish a promise for a US company whose trading address is in Egypt. The decision is Wise's at review.

Can I use my registered agent's address as my Wise trading address?

No. Wise accepts a registration agency's address as the registered address, but its trading-address rules exclude registration agencies, mail-forwarding services, virtual addresses and PO boxes. The trading address has to be where you work every day, and Wise may ask for a recent bill or statement showing it.

Is Wise a bank, and is my money insured?

Wise is not a bank. In the UK it is authorised as an electronic money institution; in the US, Wise US Inc. is a licensed money transmitter and states that it is not a bank. US balances are not FDIC-insured unless you opt into Wise's interest feature, which adds pass-through insurance through a program bank under conditions set out on Wise's page.

Can I accept card payments from customers on Wise Business?

Only in limited cases. The feature is a payment-request link for businesses in the EEA, the UK, Australia, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Singapore, Canada or the US, and it is closed to new Wise Business customers as of 24 September 2026. It is not a website checkout and it does not handle subscriptions.

What comes next

If the company does not exist yet, US company formation explains what Foundlie prepares and what remains a provider's decision; the current cost by state is on the pricing page. After formation, the order is the EIN, then the company documents, then the account applications: US LLC documents explained shows what each provider will ask you to upload.

Before choosing Wise, read how to open a US business bank account from Egypt for the general picture, then the two sibling comparisons above for Mercury and its alternatives. If the real goal is card payments on your site, go straight to accepting payments from Egypt, and read the Form 5472 guide so the annual obligations are clear before you start.
