How Stripe fees are calculated

Stripe charges a percentage plus a fixed amount on every successful charge. For a US card that is 2.9% + $0.30, so a $100 sale costs $3.20 and you receive $96.80.

A card issued outside the US adds 1.5%, taking the same sale to $4.70. If the customer pays in a currency other than USD and Stripe converts it, another 1% applies, for $5.70 in total.

Stripe does not return the processing fee when you refund a customer, so a refunded sale still costs you the fee.

  • Manually entered cards: 3.4% + $0.30.
  • ACH Direct Debit from a US bank account: 0.8% (capped at $5.00), available for US customers only.
  • Subscriptions through Stripe Billing: +0.7% of billing volume.

Can you use Stripe from Egypt or Saudi Arabia?

Stripe's supported-countries list includes the UAE but not Egypt or Saudi Arabia. The list is about where the business is registered, not where the owner lives or which passport they hold.

That is why many founders in Egypt and Saudi Arabia form a US LLC and apply for a US Stripe account, which is priced at the US rates this calculator uses. Stripe still makes the final decision after its own review.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Stripe charge on $100?

$3.20 with a US card (2.9% + $0.30), leaving you $96.80. With a card issued outside the US the fee is $4.70, and $5.70 if Stripe also converts the currency.

What is Stripe's international card fee?

1.5% on top of the base rate for any card issued outside the US, plus 1% if Stripe converts the currency.

How do I work out what to charge so I receive a set amount?

Switch the calculator to "I want to receive". For a US card the formula is (target + $0.30) ÷ (1 − 0.03); to receive $100 you charge $103.30.

Does a non-US owner of a US LLC pay higher Stripe fees?

Stripe publishes its pricing per account country. A US LLC opens a US account, so the US rates on this page apply. What changes the fee is where your customer's card was issued, not your nationality.

Does Stripe refund its fee when I refund a customer?

No. When you refund a charge, Stripe keeps the original processing fee.
